Chicanitas: Small Paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection {size doesn't matter}

Cheech Marin agreed to Strike a Reading Pose for our blog. Check it out here.

         "Chicanitas: Small paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection" is not only the name of an exhibit touring select museums across the country. It's also the title of Cheech Marin's new book featuring work by established, well known and respected Chicano artists like Frank Romero and new artists many of us haven't been introduced to yet.

          If you're a fan of Cheech Marin's other book, Chicano Visions: American Painters On The Verge, you'll definitely like this book. You'll see new painting by artists like Patssi Valdez and Vincent Valdez and you'll also be introduced to a bunch of new and up and coming artists as well like Leo Limon and Carlos DonJuan. You'll find a few pieces by Frank Romero, a member of the 1970's Chicano art collective, Los Four,  in this book along with some by his daughter, Sonia Romero. One of the cool things about the paintings in this book is their size. They're all 16" x 16" in size or smaller hence the name "Chicanitas".

         Cheech Marin was a guest at The Library Foundation's "This Is Your Library" this past Saturday. I had no idea he would be selling this book at the end of the show but once I saw it I knew I needed a copy. Alicia, our Children's Librarian, was thinking the same thing. We each bought a copy and Cheech signed them for us. This is a great book. We'll try to get a library copy real soon so it'll be available here for checkout.

Cheech signed Alicia's copy, "Hi, Cutie. Enjoy"
Cheech signed my copy, "To Art: Hey, fool! Enjoy."
